You Have Been Welcomed by Grace
Your new relationship with God rests on what Jesus has done, not on your ability to earn his acceptance.
Read
Ephesians 2:1–10 and Romans 8:1–4
Many of us are used to earning approval. We work harder, behave better and hope that our success will outweigh our failures. It is easy to bring that same mindset into faith: “If I become good enough, perhaps God will accept me.”
The gospel says something wonderfully different. We could not repair our separation from God, so God acted for us. Jesus died and rose again, and God offers forgiveness and new life as a gift. We receive that gift through faith, not as payment for religious achievement.
Grace does not mean your choices no longer matter. It means God's acceptance becomes the foundation from which a changed life can grow. You obey because you have been loved, not to persuade God to love you.
There may be days when you feel close to God and days when you do not. Feelings can change quickly. God's promise in Christ is stronger than your changing emotions. When you fail, do not hide from him. Confess your sin, receive his forgiveness and return to him.
The Christian life begins and continues by grace.
Reflect
- Am I trying to earn what God offers as a gift?
- What past failure do I need to bring honestly to Jesus?
- How would my life change if I truly believed I was welcomed by grace?
Pray
“Father, thank you that salvation is your gift. Help me trust what Jesus has done rather than my performance. Teach me to live in gratitude, humility and freedom. Amen.”
Take one step
Write down Ephesians 2:8–10 in your preferred Bible translation. Read it whenever you are tempted to measure God's love by your performance.
