Hearing God Through the Bible
The Bible helps us know God's story, recognize his character and learn how to follow Jesus.
Read
2 Timothy 3:14–17 and Luke 24:25–27
The Bible is a collection of writings produced across many centuries, yet it tells one unfolding story: God creates, humanity rebels, God pursues and promises rescue, Jesus fulfils that rescue, and God will renew all things.
The goal of Bible reading is not merely collecting information. Scripture leads us to know God, trust Jesus and become equipped for faithful living.
It is normal to find parts of the Bible difficult. Begin with a Gospel such as Mark or John, where you can encounter the life, words, death and resurrection of Jesus. Read a short passage carefully rather than rushing through many chapters.
Ask four questions:
- What does this passage actually say?
- What does it show me about God or Jesus?
- What does it reveal about people—including me?
- How should I respond in belief, prayer or action?
Pay attention to context. A verse belongs inside a paragraph, a book and the Bible's larger story. When you are uncertain, use trusted study resources and ask mature believers rather than building a major conclusion on an isolated sentence.
Consistency matters more than quantity. Five attentive minutes each day can establish a habit that gradually reshapes your mind and life.
Reflect
- What expectations do I bring to Bible reading?
- What did today's passage reveal about God's purpose for Scripture?
- What small, sustainable reading habit can I begin?
Pray
“God, open my mind to understand your Word. Help me see Jesus clearly and respond with trust and obedience. Amen.”
Take one step
Read Mark 1. Write one sentence about what you learn about Jesus and one question you want to explore.
